Services
Dr. Meldon provides individual therapy for a range of presenting concerns that include mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety and stress, trauma, and life transitions. Therapy is evidence-based and tailored to each client’s individual needs.
Individual Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful patterns in the ways that we think, feel, and act. CBT says that cognitions, emotions, and behaviors are all connected and impact each other. By making changes in one area, you can affect change in the others. CBT is an umbrella term for a wide array of treatment protocols and strategies for specific problems.
Dr. Meldon has specialized training in the following CBT and behavioral treatments:
Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
CBT-I for insomnia
Mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness based relapse prevention for alcohol and substance use (MBRP)
Exposure therapy for panic and anxiety disorders
Behavioral Activation for depression
While CBT interventions are typically time-limited, Dr. Meldon often provides ongoing treatment to those wanting to maintain their gains or prevent relapse after a course of CBT. She weaves mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies into CBT treatment to best help clients reach their treatment goals. During CBT treatment, Dr. Meldon will use worksheets and books together with clients. Clients may be asked to complete weekly homework and progress will be monitored over time.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured, principle-based treatment that is ideal for clients who struggle with emotion regulation, impulsive behaviors, interpersonal problems, rigid or extreme thinking, and problems with staying present in the current moment. Standard, or comprehensive, DBT treatment includes 4 components: individual therapy, DBT skills group, as-needed skills coaching, and DBT therapist consultation team. DBT treatment balances a push for change with a focus on validation and acceptance. DBT individual therapy is weekly or twice-weekly, and is typically a 6 month commitment at a minimum, with clients often participating in ongoing DBT individual therapy for longer. Some components of individual DBT treatment include weekly diary cards, session homework, chain analyses in session, and ongoing collaboration with other members of the treatment team (psychiatrists, skills group leaders, adjunctive treatment providers). Dr. Meldon also offers individual DBT skills training for clients who may benefit most from learning DBT skills in an individual, rather than group, format. Learn more about DBT with Dr. Meldon here.
DBT Skills Group
DBT skills training teaches clients skills in the areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT skills training runs for 6 months and meets weekly (virtually) for 90 minutes. DBT skills training is one component of standard DBT. Clients can participate in DBT Skills Group who are either in individual therapy with Dr. Meldon or who have an outside therapist.

In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Meldon is pleased to offer supervision, training, and consultation to students and professionals hoping to strengthen their skills in providing DBT treatment. Opportunities include:
